My husband started our travel agency in the Netherlands in 1984, and I joined him in 1990. Together we ran it, while I organized destination weddings on the side from 1992. Since then, I've watched travel change completely. Package holidays gave way to something more personal: travellers who want freedom, flexibility, and experiences that feel real.
In 2010, my husband and I moved to Indonesia and founded PT Rumah Dunia together. And in 2026, when we moved back to the Netherlands, we didn't sell it to a stranger. We handed it to the people who had worked there with us from day one. That decision says more about how I work than anything else I could tell you.
That company was Houses of Asia, our property management arm, alongside NewLife Villas, which ran reservations centrally. Together, they gave villa owners everything they needed: a team on the ground, and a business behind the scenes. Houses of Asia grew to support more than 80 villa owners, from preparing properties for the rental market to coordinating local staff and daily operations. NewLife Villas handled reservations, online presence, guest communication, pricing and revenue. Practical, personal, and built for the long run, that's how we've always worked.
Houses of Asia remains a trusted partner on Bali today, run by people I know well. And I'm continuing the journey with VIA Remote Services: more than 35 years of hospitality experience, now offered remotely to property owners and hospitality businesses around the world.
